Aji Alese in action for West Ham United

Aji Alese wins PL2 Goal of the Season

Ajibola Alese’s stunning solo strike away to Swansea City has been voted the Premier League 2 Goal of the Season.

Alese’s fine finish came on 21 minutes in West Ham United’s Premier League Cup Group F match away to the Swans in December, when the centre-back intercepted a pass deep inside his own half before going on a dangerous run forward.

Seeing off attempted challenges by no fewer than four Swansea players, Alese would stride into the penalty area, hold off another tackle before squeezing home his finish.

The defender's goal has now been named the Premier League 2 Goal of the Season, having received the most votes from delegates at the Youth Development Conference.

Also shortlisted for the award was Arsenal's Mika Biereth goal against Chelsea, Evan Ferguson's finish for Everton at home to  Brighton & Hove Albion, and Joe Gelhardt's strike for Leeds United away to Liverpool.

Alese said: "It's a great achievement to win the Premier League 2 Goal of the Season. There were a lot of great goals nominated so to be chosen over those is a big honour.

"We've done really well this season too so, for me personally to come out of the campaign with something to show for it, is a nice feeling.

"It's probably the best goal I've ever scored so it means a lot that the delegates have seen that and voted for it. Hopefully I do it it again in the future and I can get even more goals!"
