Modibo Maiga scored two penalties as FC Metz narrowly lost 3-2 to Ligue Un heavyweights Paris Saint Germain. The Parisian club got off to a great start, racing to a 2-0 lead after just 16 minutes through Javier Pastore and a Gaetan Bussmann's own goal.
However Metz were handed a lifeline through Maiga who coolly converted from the spot twice, after Siargai Krivets and Gregory van der Wiel both gave away penalties within four minutes of each other. However Ezequiel Lavezzi was on hand to secure the win with just seven minutes remaining as he netted from close range.
Sean Maguire played 80 minutes of Accrington Stanley's 2-1 win over Cambridge United at the Crown Ground. Two goals from Piero Mingoia saw Stanley leapfrog Cambridge in the League Two table who sit in twelfth on 26 points.
Ravel Morrison returned to the bench after injury in Cardiff City's 2-1 win over Reading. The Bluebirds took all three points through Alex Pearce's own goal and Peter Whittingham's penalty. Reading scored a late consolation goal through Michael Hector, yet Russell Slade's men held out.
