West Ham United Ladies lost 3-0 at home to FA Women's Premier League Southern Division leaders Portsmouth Ladies on Sunday.
The visitors, who have been in good form this season with 15 points from their opening six league games, started the game well as Charley Wilson's header opened the scoring in the 16th minute following a cross from Lucy Quinn.
Despite the early blow, the Hammers remained resolute as they prevented the league leaders from stretching their lead, Hammers' goalkeeper Nikita Runnacles was is fine form pulling off a string of saves and at half time the score was still 0-0.
The match continued to be largely uneventful until the 63th minute when defender Vicki King inadvertently scored an own goal past the helpless Runnacles.
Ladies' manager Julian Dicks responded by brining on Abbie Solly, Lily Mellors and Rian Humphreys for her senior debut. The changes seemed to bring new life into the team as Mellors came close to reducing the deficit as her 22 yard strike hit the crossbar.
The visitors wrapped up the victory deep into injury time through Wilson's second of the game. The defeat sees Dicks' team in sixth position on nine points from six games. Their next fixture is away to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday 2 October.
