Carl Jenkinson says West Ham United can head to Southampton in positive frame of mind following Sunday's draw with Manchester United.
The Hammers travel to St Mary's Stadium on Wednesday evening knowing the third-place Saints have lost just three matches and conceded just eight goals in 13 home Barclays Premier League matches this season.
While those statistics may daunt some visitors, the right-back insists West Ham will not be fazed by the prospect of taking on Ronald Koeman's side.
Jenko, how do you assess Wednesday's trip to Southampton?
"I am confident that if we go out there and play the way we did on Sunday, then we can get a result. We played fantastically well against Manchester United and going by the law of averages, if we play like that every game then we are going to get a lot of points between now and the end of the season, so as long as we can keep up that level of performance we will be all right."
Southampton are very strong at the back and seemingly very difficult to break down defensively, while they also possess a strong midfield and potent attackers. What is the plan to defeat them?
"I think the plan is to go there and play as we did on Sunday. Normally, they will have a nice footballing surface down there so we will be able to play our game. The good thing is that Southampton will be going for it as well. It should be a nice game of football because both teams want to play football and score goals."
Do you need to win on Wednesday if we are to maintain hopes of qualifying for Europe through our league position?
"I wouldn't say we need to win, but it is definitely a very important game just as Sunday's match was. It is going to be tough because they are a very good side, but if we play like we did on Sunday we will have a very good chance."
While West Ham might have sat deep and defended against the top teams in previous seasons, it appears we are willing to take the game to them this term. Is the mind-set of the squad and of the Club changing?
"It is the case now. The mentality here is definitely the same as it was at Arsenal. I don't know if it was different here a couple of years ago, but we now go into these games knowing that we can win, because we have done it before this season and Sunday was another one we should have won. But that's football sometimes and you just have to take it, but I don't think it was a just result today and even they would probably admit that."
Looking back to the game on Sunday - your birthday - what are your feelings about the way Manchester United snatched a last-gasp equaliser?
"To be honest I am absolutely gutted. It is always tough in football when you deserve to win a game and you don't. We worked so hard out there to get in the position we did. We had so many chances, it was a game we should have won with ease and it is just absolutely gutting to concede like that.
"I think it was our best performance of the season. We have had a little dip lately in terms of our performances, but I think on Sunday we were definitely back to our best and I think we had everything in our game. We were very dynamic going forward and the defence was very strong considering who we were missing and who we were playing against. I thought it was a great performance all round from the boys."
And, to end on a positive note, what a goal from your new defensive colleague Cheikhou Kouyate!
"It was a great piece of skill to put that in the back of the net. Cheik was fantastic at centre-half and people forget he has played there for Anderlecht at a very high level in the Champions League. He knows how to play there, he is an experienced player now and he did himself no harm."
