Sydney Hammers member Kai has inspired everyone at West Ham United with his bravery after undergoing heart surgery for the third time
West Ham United are proud of the Club’s huge and loyal worldwide fanbase and are always deeply touched when we hear of fans going through tough times.
When the Club were alerted to the plight of brave Sydney Hammers member Kai, seven, who recently underwent heart surgery for the third time in his young life, a package full of West Ham goodies was despatched to Australia.
Kai’s father Mike, who revealed last month that his son had insisted on them both wearing Claret and Blue shirts to travel to hospital for his most recent surgery, wrote on the Sydney Hammers’ Facebook page to confirm the parcel had arrived Down Under.
“The package arrived today,” Mike wrote. “WOW! I’m blown away by the generosity of the Club… I will send some photos tomorrow as Kai is in bed now, but just wanted to let you know it all arrived. Thanks again to [my fellow Hammers] and the Club, it means the world to us.”
Mike and his family have been touched by messages of support from West Ham supporters and the wider football family from all over the world.
Sydney Hammers chairman Rob Byrne, recently visited London to watch Slaven Bilic’s win 3-1 at Crystal Palace, told how Mike and Kai share their devotion to all things West Ham United.
“Mike Goddard is a big Sydney Hammer,” said Rob. “His son Kai has had his third open heart surgery and when he was in bed he had his West Ham jersey right at the top by his pillow.
“We send our best wishes to Mick, his son Kai and his family, we are all thinking of them. We have had an amazing response from around the world – not just West Ham fans but those of Premier League teams all around the world – tweeting us and putting messages on Facebook and it’s great to see the support from everyone! Best to Mick and his family!”
