With his annual football tournaments for children, George Parris remains a popular figure at the Boleyn Ground, 30 years on from his most-successful season.
The former West Ham United full-back will be back on familiar territory on Monday evening, when the Boys of '86 return for a themed Barclays Premier League fixture with Newcastle United.
Last season, Parris sat down with broadcaster and Hammer Ian 'Moose' Abrahams to discuss his career in Claret and Blue and the famous, record-breaking 1985/86 campaign.
"To be honest, any other season we’d have won the league, and at the time we just went out and played football to be fair," he recalled. "It’s only now, when we look back, we actually realise that was a very good side. We had individuals who were good at individual things and I think that’s what helped us, it was that everyone knew that and we played to each other’s strengths.
"I only played the second half of the season, as Steve Walford played the first half, but it was a great back four. Ray Stewart was at right-back, he was a penalty-taker supreme and a very good defender. Alvin Martin and Galey were our centre-half partnership, they were commanding and could muscle it up with the best of them. And then there was Steve who started the season at left-back and was good on the ball and a good defender."
