- Winston Reid wants to make amends for the Hammers’ defeat in Slovenia last week
- Slaven Bilic’s side went down 2-1 in the Europa League qualifier first leg
- Only a win will do for the east Londoners who take on NK Domzale in their first ever clash in the new Stadium
Winston Reid wants West Ham United to put things right against NK Domzale on Thursday night as they look to qualify for the Europa League group stages.
The Hammers were beaten 2-1 by their Slovenian opponents away from home last week and must win the second leg at their new Stadium in order to progress in the competition.
And the New Zealand international, who played 90 minutes in the opening tie, is keen to make amends in east London.
He said: “It was disappointing last week. We wanted to go there and get a result. Tomorrow we have an opportunity to put things right, and we need to do it. We want to be in the next round.
“It’s important for the Club to be in Europe because we want to grow. As players, we want to experience it and we want to progress. We want to make sure we get the right result to proceed.
“We’re ready for the task that lies ahead of us. We are going to approach the game like we approach all games. We didn’t do well last week and we need to out a much better performance on tomorrow.”
The European clash will mark the Club’s first ever match at their new home on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, before they take on Juventus in the Betway Cup on Sunday.
And stepping out in front of 54,000 fans on Thursday will mark a huge moment in the Club’s history, Reid explained.
“We’ve been talking about this for a long time and it will be nice to get out there for the first game,” he continued.
“In some ways it will be different for us, but I think we’ve got used to the idea now that we have moved and today we got the chance to get out on it, and tomorrow we’ll be ready for it.
“It is our new home and I’m sure everyone’s been looking forward to it for a while now.”
