- Ayew was born in France but grew up playing his football in Ghana, until the age of ten when he joined 1860 Munich
- The striker’s father is Abedi Ayew, who won the African Player of the Year award on three occasions
- He, like Andre, also played for Marseille, and helped them win the 1993 Champions League
- Ayew joined the French side as a 17-year-old and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 60 times
- The 26-year-old boasts great versatility – he can play as a traditional striker, behind a forward in the No10 position, or on either wing
- Ayew is a hugely influential player for Ghana – the Black Stars – and has captained the side during his 67 caps
- The Hammers’ newest recruit has two brothers, both of whom are professional footballers – Jordan is at Aston Villa, while Ibrahim plays back in Ghana
- Ayew has played in two FIFA World Cups as well as four African Cup of Nations competitons
