Algerian football blogger Rami Kassa Baghdouche says Sofiane Feghouli was hugely impressed by the West Ham United project…
Sofiane Feghouli is an Algeria international whose offensive qualities include speed and great technical ability – qualities which were first formed at the French club Grenoble.
After a particularly successful season there in 2008/09, Feghouli drew the interest of large European team including Manchester City and Atletico Madrid. In 2010, he chose to join Valencia and, after a first year of adaptation on loan at Almeria, he had five successful seasons there.
In 2016, he came to the end of his contract and several European teams were linked with the player, including Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Fenerbahce, Roma and AC Milan, but he was eventually seduced by the sports project of West Ham United.
Feghouli had a difficult final season with Valencia, but now he has the opportunity to discover the English Premier League.
He decided to live the English adventure after taking advice from his friend and fellow Algerian Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City, who told him good things about England.
“I’m really happy the choice of West Ham,” Feghouli said about his move to the Hammers. “After meeting with leaders and coaches, I studied the offer from West Ham and the sports project. It was a pretty easy choice. It has become a first choice from the moment I spoke with Slaven Bili?. He showed a real interest in me.
“The club, the Premier League, the history of West Ham supporters – all this meant that I did not hesitate. The club play in Europe next season. They come out of a beautiful season with a team that has great spirit, the fighting spirit of the English.
“The coach put his mark on the team. This is a club that is on an upswing with the new Stadium, and which targets good recruitment. All this convinced me.”

The Algerian is highly anticipated by West Ham fans, who are also eager to see him evolve alongside Dimitri Payet. Feghouli is ready to line up alongside Payet, along with his other new teammates.
“First of all, what he did last season was very good,” he said of Payet, “but West Ham is not only Dimitri Payet. There is a good team in place. After of course, is a high-quality player. This is an added value.”
Both men will be essential parts of the London workforce with high ambitions and Feghouli himself is targeting success in both the Premier League and in Europe.
As a proud Algerian, we are all hoping Sofiane Feghouli does well for West Ham United.
