West Ham fan Spencer Owen is looking forward to a Europa League campaign next season
West Ham United supporter and YouTube star Spencer Owen thinks there is no reason why the Club cannot have a successful campaign in the Europa League next season.
The Hammers qualified for the early rounds of the competition for the second consecutive season on Saturday after Manchester United were crowned Emirates FA Cup winners, and head straight to the third qualifying round.
And season ticket holder Owen is looking forward to what he believes could be an exciting European run next term should the right moulding of the squad take place during the summer.
He said: "Why can't we go and win it? It seems like in our early transfer activity we are looking to add to the squad and make sure it is the kind of squad that can go and win a competition like that, and if we can take it seriously, why not?
"Our squad probably needs a few more names to cope with a lot of fixtures and get good teams out every week, but there's no reason why we can't go and do really well.
"We definitely deserved European football. It was a shame we didn't do it ourselves, because it was in our hands after the amazing result against United here, but forget all that now; we got in, which is great. Thank you Jesse Lingard! You're always welcome in east London anytime!"
For a period of the 2015/16 campaign, the Hammers were in the running for a potential top four finish and Champions League football for the following campaign, but it wasn't to be after some results went against Slaven Bilic's side.
However Owen admitted that the Europa League, in some ways, offers different, more exciting prospects for West Ham supporters.
"I'm looking forward to the draw and seeing who we get," he continued. "[It will be] a nice little away day, and obviously hopefully we'll go into the group stage with some more games, and see how far we go.
"When you're in the Champions League, your away days are to the same cities; Madrid, Milan, Munich, which is great, but what the Europa League offers is a chance to go to places you would have never gone to otherwise.
"Hopefully being in the competition is going to help us secure some decent signings in the summer as well, so it's all looking good."
The Club were of course involved in the qualifying rounds last campaign, and the experiences gained from early-season ties could assist the Claret and Blues in getting through this year's initial stages.
Owen continued: "[Last season] will have been a great experience, especially for some of the youngsters. I went out to Andorra when we won 1-0 and it was obviously a long process, as we had the three qualifying games, with two games for each one.
"This year we want to be part of the tournament and see how far we can go and I think for the guys that got a little taste of last year, it will help them."
