Fan blogger Joe Difford's latest take on all things West Ham...
Out of our four consecutive difficult fixtures, our game away to Manchester United was considered out best chance of picking up all three points, and we were very unfortunate not to on Sunday.
Diafra Sakho opened the scoring within 90 seconds, heading home at the near post and opening his account for the season.
The likes of Dimitri Payet and Michail Antonio were getting in the right positions, but United were making it difficult to double our lead.
One of the main talking points wasn’t a goal, but a dive from Paul Pogba before the half hour mark. As Mark Noble moved in to tackle, the record signing jumped and threw himself to the ground. Some have argued that he was avoiding Noble’s challenge, but replays show the Hammers skipper was nowhere near making contact, and Pogba’s booking caused Jose Mourinho to kick a water bottle and get sent to the stands.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic capitalised on a loss of concentration in defence for his leveller, as a ball was floated over James Collins’ head and the United striker flicked it on and into Darren Randolph’s net.
Aside from this goal, the West Ham goalkeeper was utterly outstanding, making a number of world class saves and playing arguably the most important role in the hard-earned point.
You could argue that we should have had more as Payet chipped in a cross and it struck the outstretched arm of Marcos Rojo, but the referee waved away protests.
A point at Old Trafford is a fantastic result for any side, but given our performance three points wouldn’t have been outrageous.
With another tie against Mourinho’s men on Wednesday in the League Cup, it gives us a chance to keep this momentum going and try to get a result against Arsenal and Liverpool, as we come to the end of this tough run of fixtures.
