West Ham United Ladies 0-4 Crystal Palace Ladies

It was back to earth with a bump for West Ham Ladies at Ship Lane on Sunday after Crystal Palace Ladies comfortably beat them 4-0.

Wednesday’s hard-earned point against C&K Basildon seemed a distant memory as Palace’s Goss lost her marker to tap home after just four minutes.

The Eagles looked the stronger of the two sides and it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead. This time, Bryan was given too much space and hit a speculative shot from 20 yards out which flew over the head of keeper Deger Zekai.

Goss almost doubled her tally with a spectacular overhead kick after Shakes had struck the crossbar, but her effort narrowly missed the target. West Ham, with only Whitney Locke as an outlet, were put under immense pressure and it wasn’t long before Palace got their third.

Bryan beat the West ham defence to a long ball, calmly slotting it home to make the half time score 3-0.

West Ham Ladies changed it around in the second half bringing on Dayna Chong, Ellie Butcher and league debutant Sarah Wilson to add some pace to the midfield, and the Hammers did manage to keep Palace out until the 78th minute.

The fourth came when the visitors were awarded a dubious penalty – Shakes confidently converted to make it 4-0.

Manager James Marrs was left disappointed after the defeat following the midweek draw with C&K Basildon.

He said: “Today, on reflection, we were not good enough and didn't match their work rate or intensity. We were tired and were probably feeling sorry for ourselves.

“We have had a tough week regarding games and training. It’s very disappointing on the back of two better performances defensively to put on a show like that, so there are no excuses from us.

“We simply weren’t good enough, but we will continue to improve and I am learning a lot about the players each week.”
