- West Ham United Ladies face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday evening
- Hammers travel to north London on season's best four-match unbeaten run
- Unbeaten Spurs sit top of FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division
West Ham United Ladies head to White Hart Lane for a historic meeting with Tottenham Hotspur Ladies on Wednesday evening in confident mood.
The Hammers secured a goalless FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division draw with Lewes Ladies on Sunday, extending their unbeaten run to four matches and strengthening their hopes of survival.
That point took Greg De Carnys’ side above Swindon Town Ladies in the table ahead of their final two fixtures of the season, both of which will be against table-topping Tottenham.
The first of those will be played at White Hart Lane on Wednesday evening at 7pm – reciprocating a gesture the Hammers made in welcoming Spurs to the Boleyn Ground in March 2016. West Ham won that game 1-0, and De Carnys is hoping to upset the unbeaten home side this time around.
“Obviously now there is a lot still riding on these last two games so we must make sure that we are focussed on the task and we play our football,” said the manager. “Hopefully the surface at White Hart Lane will suit us.
“Tottenham are obviously a good side and sitting at the top of the league and beating them is going to be a tough task, but we are going to have to apply ourselves right and make sure that we prepare well and give our best.”
We have been training well, we’ve got the ability in the team and our coaches are all behind us working hard, so I do believe that we can get something out of the end of the season
Hannah Wheeler
The Hammers’ back four of Jasmine Auguste, Hannah Wheeler, Demmi Brown and Chantelle Mackie were in tremendous form, restricting Lewes to long-range pot shots.
As a veteran of last season’s Boleyn Ground victory, Wheeler is looking forward to locking horns with Tottenham on a big stage again and finishing a challenging season on a high.
“We have been training well, we’ve got the ability in the team and our coaches are all behind us working hard, so I do believe that we can get something out of the end of the season,” she said.
“I’m very excited! We played them at Upton Park last year and we beat them, so I believe that they will bring a bit of fight and it will be a tough game.
“It was overwhelming playing in front of so many fans at the Boleyn Ground, as most of us had never played in front of a crowd that big in our careers. Then it was even nicer because we got the win by playing so well together!”
The West Stand Lower at White Hart Lane will be opened for Wednesday’s historic fixture, with tickets priced at £5 for Adults and £1 for Over-65s and Under-16s.
