Chicharito is set to make his first appearance in a West Ham United shirt in tonight’s pre-season fixture with Altona 93.
The Mexico centre forward, who joined the Hammers from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen last week, returns to Germany and is expected to make his maiden appearance for Slaven Bilic’s side from the substitutes’ bench.
Winston Reid also returns to action after recovering from the shin surgery he underwent in May. The New Zealand defender captains the side in Hamburg – just 125 miles from the Danish town of Sonderborg, where he grew up.
With just two matches to play ahead of the Premier League season opener at Manchester United on Sunday 13 August, West Ham manager Bilic has named a strong and experienced starting XI for Tuesday’s game at the Adolf-Jager-Kampfbahn.
Adrian starts in goal, with a back four of Pablo Zabaleta, Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell.
Pedro Obiang anchors the midfield with Edimilson Fernandes, with Marko Arnautovic and Robert Snodgrass in the wide areas. Andre Ayew will support Toni Martinez in attack.
Joining Chicharito on the bench are Joe Hart, who will hope to start Friday’s Super Match with former club Manchester City in Iceland, Jose Fonte, Declan Rice, Arthur Masuaku, Sam Byram, Moses Makasi and Nathan Holland.
Bilic is without Manuel Lanzini, who has a minor knee injury which is being monitored, and Mark Noble, who left Friday’s Betway Cup tie with Werder Bremen a toe injury. James Collins also misses out but could face Manchester City on Friday.
Sofiane Feghouli has returned for England to receive treatment for a hamstring problem while Michail Antonio (hamstring) and Andy Carroll (hip) are continuing their own rehab work at Rush Green.
