Adrian admitted any personal satisfaction from a strong display at Manchester City was wiped out by the second half double which took the Premier League leaders to victory over the Hammers on Sunday,
A resilient West Ham team went into the interval at the Etihad Stadium with a one-goal lead thanks to Angelo Ogbonna’s towering header and defended resolutely to ensure they had that advantage.
City, going for a 13th straight league win, predictably came out strongly in the second period and eventually wore their visitors down, with goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva meaning Adrian’s six saves counted for little.
It was a fine performance on the Spanish stopper’s return to Premier League action with Joe Hart unavailable due to the terms of his loan from City, and he says his team need to build on the positive moments they created for the coming weeks.
“I don’t feel any happiness because we got nothing from the game,” the No13 said. “The feeling is that we’ve worked hard, we’ve defended well for all of the game and we had a great chance to make it 2-2 at the end.
“We have to take the positive things from this game, that we did a great job in defence, and build for the next games.
“We have a long run to the end of the season, we are in a difficult situation but I think we have a great dressing room and a great squad.
“We are working hard for the new manager and we need to fight for more points to take us away from the relegation zone.
“Obviously, from a personal point of view I try to give my best every time I play. The manager knows that I train hard every day, so I try to give him a headache for the next few games to fight for the number one position.
“This was my first game in the Premier League this season, and I have to keep working [for more opportunities].”
