Domingos Quina remains on course for a personal double after helping Portugal reach the semi-finals of the UEFA European U19 Championship in Georgia.
West Ham United youngster Quina, who was crowned a European U17 champion last summer, was in the starting XI as the Portuguese beat Czech Republic 2-1 at the David Petriashvili Stadium in Tbilisi.
Having beaten the host nation 1-0 in their opening Group A fixture, Quina and company have qualified for the last four with a game to spare. They will complete their group-stage commitments against Sweden on Saturday 8 July.
Against the Czechs, Benfica’s Mesaque Dju put Portugal ahead on 35 minutes, before Slovan Liberec forward Martin Graiciar levelled five minutes before half-time. With 16 minutes to play, FC Porto striker Rui Pedro scored for the second match in succession to clinch all three points.
The 17-year-old Quina, who made two UEFA Europa League appearances for the Hammers last summer, unleashed two decent attempts on goal himself prior to Pedro’s winner, before being replaced with 12 minutes remaining.
Elsewhere at the Euro U19 finals, West Ham goalkeeper Nathan Trott and England will hope to build on their 2-0 Group B victory over Bulgaria when they face the Netherlands on Thursday. England round out their group-stage fixtures by tackling Germany on Sunday.
England versus the Netherlands will be screened live on Eurosport 2 from 2.15pm on Thursday 6 July.
