Manuel Lanzini has become West Ham United’s 157th senior international after making his Argentina debut.
The Hammers No10 was introduced as a second-half substitute as La Albiceleste recorded a 1-0 friendly win over Brazil in front of a 90,000-strong crowd in Australia.
Lanzini replaced Internazionale midfielder Ever Banega with ten minutes at Melbourne Cricket Ground and helped Argentina complete victory over their South American rivals.
The late cameo saw the 24-year-old become West Ham’s fourth full Argentina international after full-back Lionel Scaloni, midfielder Javier Mascherano and forward Carlos Tevez, who all featured back in 2006.
Friday’s fixture was settled by a goal from defender Gabriel Mercado, who Lanzini played alongside for two seasons at Argentinian giants River Plate between 2012 and 2014.
Jorge Sampaoli’s squad will now fly to Singapore, where they will square-off against the Southeast Asian nation in a friendly on Tuesday 13 June at 1pm BST.
