Michail Antonio says the Hammers can bounce back when they take on AFC Bournemouth in their first home game of the season next Saturday.
West Ham fell to a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday, but Antonio knows they are capable of better and will show that sooner rather than later.
Antonio played the 90 minutes, returning after suffering a hamstring injury towards the end of last season, and he is determined to kick on with that London Stadium opener to come.
He said: “Liverpool away on the first day of the season is a good challenge – the result in the end is a difficult one, but I think we performed better than 4-0.
“Liverpool have one of the best records at home, so we kick on and our season starts next week against Bournemouth.
“We’ve signed nine players, and some of them have had pre-season with us but some of them came quite late, so we haven’t played much with them. We’ll get together and we’ll gel.
“I managed to get a start for the first game of the season and you need those players behind you who will threaten your position because it makes you want to play better and fight to stay in the team.
“I’m determined to keep my position. I’ve shown by playing in multiple positions that I just want to play and hopefully I can keep the shirt."
