West Ham United’s official eSports players, Jamboo, has admitted his frustration at being eliminated from the eFootball League, powered by Goal, in his last 16 contest.
Jamboo, having finished second in Group B of qualifying, was drawn to play the winner of Group D in VFL Bochum’s Michael ‘MegaBit98’ Bittner for a place in the quarter-finals.
The two-legged contest saw Jamboo beaten 4-3 in the first game, having come back from four goals behind, before falling 6-2 in the second fixture, giving MegaBit98 an aggregate victory of 10-5.
The West Ham representative indicated a poor start to the first game left him playing catch-up for the rest of the two fixtures.
“Losing the first match 4-3 was very frustrating,” Jamboo told whufc.com: “I suppose I should be happy I got it back to that scoreline, given I had gone four goals behind in the first half. But that poor period at the start cost me overall.
“Given I went into the second game a goal behind, I had to go really attacking, which played into MegaBit’s style. He’s so quick on the counter-attack and got a lot of his goals in the second leg on the break. It’s annoying but that’s the game.”
Despite his elimination from the eFootball League, powered by Goal, at the first knock-out hurdle, Jamboo is proud of his progression through the group stages, and knows he has given himself a strong platform to build on.
He continued: “Going out to MegaBit isn’t the end of the world. At the moment, he’s one of the best FIFA players in the world and he’s also on a really hot streak. I think I gave a good account of myself when I played him.
“I’m proud I reached this stage of the competition. Getting out of the group was not easy. There were three quality opponents in my pool and I’ve given myself something to build on going forward.”
