West Ham United’s official eSports player, Jamboo, ‘couldn’t be happier’ with collecting a win in his first contest in the 2018 eFootball League powered by Goal.
Jamboo faced a tough test in his first match of the campaign, coming up against former West Ham player Sean ‘Dragonn’ Allen, now of Lightning Pandas, in Group B of the Xbox division.
The West Ham United representative, despite going behind twice, claimed a huge 4-3 win in the first round, giving Jamboo three points from his first match of the campaign.
“I couldn’t be happier with the result,” Jamboo told whufc.com. “It was a really intense match. Obviously, I knew it was going to be really difficult, because we all know what a good player Sean is.
I couldn’t be happier with the result...Beating Sean puts me in a really good place to get through into the knock-out stages of the tournament.

“If I’m completely honest I would have made him the favourite before the game, not just for our match but also to win the entire group. Beating him puts me in a really good place to get through into the knock-out stages of the tournament.”
It was a thrilling contest between the two FIFA players, with Jamboo admitting neither he or Sean favour a defensive style of play in the game.
He continued: “Neither of us are particularly defensive minded. We both just look to outscore our opponents, which made for an entertaining match. It’s usually high scoring when we play each other. I’m just glad I came out on top this time.
“I was 4-2 up and then Sean got a goal back with just a couple of minutes to go. We know how good a player he is so naturally there’s that concern he could equalise and undo my hard work. I had to keep the ball away from him, keep my cool, and thankfully I held on.”
Jamboo’s next match will be shown in the next week and a victory in that game could confirm his place in the knock-out rounds, depending on results elsewhere.
FC Twente’s Emre Benli and Northampton FC’s Liam ‘Reaperzz’ Merry complete the group, with the two top sides in each group progressing to the last 16 fixtures in February.
Success in that round, and the quarter finals, would see Jamboo represent West Ham United in the live semi-finals and final LAN event.
