Chicharito hit the post late on as Mexico fell to a 2-0 defeat by Denmark in their final 2018 FIFA World Cup warm-up fixture.
The striker hit the post late on in Copenhagen, but not before two goals in the space of four minutes from Yussuf Poulsen and Christian Eriksen had put the Danes in control at Brondby Stadion.
After a goalless opening 60 minutes, the West Ham United forward was introduced as a replacement for Oribe Peralta for his 102nd cap, with the aim of securing a morale-boosting winner, but instead it was the Europeans who hit the back of the net first.
With 19 minutes to play, RB Leipzig striker Poulsen cut onto his left foot and curled an unstoppable shot into Guillermo Ochoa’s top left-hand corner.
And it was 2-0 to Denmark three minutes later when Tottenham Hotspur’s Eriksen breached the defensive line before firing a low effort past Ochoa.
Mexico looked for a late way back into the game and went closest on 84 minutes, when Chicharito stole in front of his marker with a superbly-timed run and volleyed Jesus Corona’s cross against the base of the near post from a difficult angle.
The Hammer is expected to be restored to the starting XI when Mexico kick-off their World Cup Group F challenge against champions Germany on Sunday 17 June
That match will be followed by a clash with South Korea on Saturday 23 June and the final group stage match with Sweden on Wednesday 27 June.
