West Ham United women’s players are helping to raise awareness for post-traumatic stress disorder after starring in a new film about the condition.
‘Pretty Little Bubbles’ tells the story of an ex-soldier back from serving in Afghanistan as he contends with the struggles of his return to life away from the army, while also raising his West Ham-supporting twin daughters.
The film features a cameo from winger Rosie Kmita, while Brooke Hendrix, Brianna Visalli, Erin Simon and Anna Moorhouse also appear in the movie, which was written and produced by women’s vice-president Michael Cornwell.
Made in association with #Forces2Courses, a charity set-up to support ex-military personnel by helping them develop new skills, Pretty Little Bubbles premiered on Wednesday evening at an event attended by the women’s team.
"The story of Pretty Little Bubbles conveys a really important message," Kmita told whufc.com. "It's one that, as a women's team, we want to make people aware of.
"It was an honour to be involved in the filming of this movie, and great to see so much support for this cause."
West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan, former players including Brian Dear, Jack Collison and Paul Konchesky, and celebrity supporters including X-Factor winner Louisa Johnson and Olympic gold medallist Mark Lewis-Francis were also in attendance.
Simon Weston CBE, who served in the Falklands War and has worked with charities in support of ex-servicemen, and Michael Watson MBE, also attended the premiere.
“The film really highlights the struggles that veterans have when they return from warzones, and I’m glad we were able to help tell that story,” Erin Simon said.
“It was really cool to attend the premiere. It was an awesome event and quite surreal to see my name in the credits at the end.”
