Felipe Anderson has great belief in his own ability but, like every player, he thrives on the confidence instilled in him by his manager.
A month ago, Manuel Pellegrini spoke both publicly and privately of how he expected more of West Ham United's record signing, adding that he was convinced more consistent, match-changing performances were not far away.
The winger responded with three goals in his last two appearances in Claret and Blue, inspiring the Irons to a Premier League victory over Burnley at London Stadium before rescuing a point for his side at Huddersfield Town.
“It was very important for me to know the manager trusts me and believes in me and that I can be the player he wants me to be,” the Brazil international told Saturday’s Official Programme for the visit of champions Manchester City. “From the start, he’s told me I can do what he wants me to do without thinking. He’s chosen me for this reason and he believes I can do what he chose me for.
“He gives me peace on the pitch when things aren’t going well and it gives me strength to keep working even when games aren’t going well for me personally.
“I believe and I work on what I know what I can do so that this can be my best season as a player.”
If that is the case and Felipe Anderson does enjoy the finest season of his already impressive career, West Ham United supporters have a lot to look forward to.
