Lukasz Fabianski made an unhappy return to West Ham United duty, as his comeback after three months out with a hip muscle injury ended in a 2-1 Premier League defeat by Leicester City at London Stadium.
The Poland international conceded and saved a penalty early on in Saturday's game, only to be beaten either side of half-time by Kelechi Iheanacho and Gray as the Hammers slipped to another disappointing loss on home turf.
Any joy the No1 felt at pulling on his gloves again was therefore overshadowed by the frustration felt at the result, which left the Irons just one place and one point above the relegation zone midway through the 2019/20 season.
"It's very disappointing that we didn't manage to get something out of the game," he told Premier League Productions. "Looking back at the 90 minutes, it took us a bit [of time] to get into the game and get a bit of fluency.
"Leicester dominated the first part of the first half and we struggled a bit with keeping possession. Then we had a really good spell towards the end of the first half.
"In the second half it seemed quite equal for me, but they were more precise when it came to finishing the chances and they put another one past me."
Fabianski and his teammates must now regroup again ahead of the New Year's Day visit of AFC Bournemouth to London Stadium.
"Playing at home, that's where we should be getting the most points and the manager is obviously disappointed with the performances, especially here, because for some while we've not managed to get anything playing at home
"That's where we should be stronger and where we should improve. Hopefully we can do it in the next home game."
Referring to his early penalty stop, which came after the goalkeeper had himself fouled Kelechi Iheanacho, Fabianski put the save down to the preparation work put in by the analysis team.
"For me, first and foremost, I try to remember anything from the analysis we do before the game, because obviously normally the penalty taker is [Jamie] Vardy," he explained.
"I tried to remember the other possible penalty takers and one of them was Gray. I think he had the tendency to always go to this side (his right and Fabianski's left) and luckily for me he went there again and I managed to save it."
