Conor Coventry and his Republic of Ireland U21 teammates are through to the semi-finals of the 2019 Maurice Ravello Toulon Tournament in France.
The West Ham United youngster was introduced as a half-time substitute for the Boys in Green in the 1-0 victory over Bahrain in Vitrolles on Sunday afternoon – a result which saw them finish the group stage unbeaten with seven points out of a possible nine.
Having beaten China and drawn with Mexico, Ireland knew a win would put them through to the last four, either as Group C winners or as the best runners-up, and that victory was duly achieved through a first-half goal from Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Connor Ronan.
Defensive midfielder Coventry was then introduced as Ireland sought to tighten things up at the back, helping his team set up a semi-final meeting with either Japan on Brazil on Wednesday 12 June.
The final will take place in Salon-de-Provence on Saturday 15 June.
The tournament is being broadcast live in the UK by Free Sports on Freeview channel 64, Sky Sports channel 422, Virgin Media channel 553, Freesat channel 252, BT TV channel 64, TalkTalk TV channel 64.
