West Ham United is delighted to announce that Nathan Holland has signed a new contract with the Club until 2022.
Holland, who joined the Hammers in January 2017, becomes the latest youngster to commit his future to the Irons, with the likes of Declan Rice, Grady Diangana, Ben Johnson and Nathan Trott also penning new deals this season.
The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for West Ham United in September 2017 in a Carabao Cup contest with Bolton Wanderers, and is looking forward to furthering his development with the team after reaching full fitness following some frustrating injury battles over the course of the last 12 months..
“West Ham has felt like home since I joined the club and I’m delighted to extend my contract with the Hammers,” Holland told whufc.com.
“West Ham have been brilliant. It’s been a challenge, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it since I’ve joined. That is thanks to my teammates and the staff here at West Ham. I’m happy to be here for many more years.”
The winger has played ten times for the U23s this season in Premier League 2 and was on the bench for the Premier League match with Manchester United last month.
Having put pen to paper on his new deal, Holland is now targeting his Premier League debut for the Irons.
He continued: “It’s been tough and there’s been lots of highs and some downs. Overall, I think I’ve improved as a player and it’s made me stronger.
“I think it’s taken a while for me to get back to what I say is my best. I feel like, in the past few months, I’ve got there, and I’m delighted to be enjoying my football out there on the pitch.
“I want to finish the season strongly and work hard in the summer. I want to be ready to come back firing and see where that takes me. I just have to keep pushing, keep playing well, enjoy my football, and be ready for when my chance comes.”
Manager Manuel Pellegrini has shown his willingness to develop young talent since taking charge of West Ham last summer, and Holland is thoroughly enjoying working under the Chilean.
The midfielder believes Pellegrini’s style suits how he wants to play and hopes to continue developing under the manager’s guidance.
“The boss is brilliant,” Holland added. “His style of play is the way we all want to play, and he has the confidence in everyone to go out there and do what they do best. It gives you the chance to show what you can do.
“He wants you to enjoy the ball, look after it, but also express yourself. That’s what you want as a young player. You want to be able to go out there with no fear, just doing what you want to do, and he asks you to do just that.
“The boss likes it when I go quick 1v1 and he gives me confidence and really believes in me to do that. I just try to show that. Recently, with the U23s, I’ve tried to be attacking as much as I can and really express myself out there. I think I quickly adapted to his style of play and I think I’ve come on as a player a lot this year. Hopefully I can continue to do that.”
