Play-Off final hero Josh Cullen was not the only West Ham United loanee in action at the weekend.
While the midfielder was helping Charlton Athletic to secure promotion from EFL League One in dramatic style by defeating Sunderland at Wembley, which you can read about here, Edimilson Fernandes, Martin Samuelsen and Toni Martinez were also on the pitch.
Swiss midfielder Fernandes (pictured, above) completed his loan spell with Fiorentina by playing the full 90 minutes in La Viola’s goalless home draw with Geona on the final day of the Serie A season.
Despite finishing with a positive goal difference and conceding fewer goals than any club outside the top seven , Fiorentina’s failure to win any of their final 14 matches saw them drop down the table to finish in 16th place, just three points above relegated Empoli.
Fernandes ended his loan spell having played 33 times in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering two assists as Fiorentina also reached the semi-finals of the Italian Cup.
Samuelsen played the opening 61 minutes of Haugesund’s 4-1 win at Mjondalen in Norway’s Eliteserien. Two goals from Ibrahima Wadji had already put Haugesund in control when Samuelsen was replaced by Kristoffer Velde with just under half-an-hour remaining.
The winger’s hometown club are seventh in the 16-team table, just two points behind Bodo/Glimt in third, having won four and drawn three of their opening ten league matches.
Martinez made his first appearance in over a month for Lugo in Spain’s Segunda Division, playing for the final 23 minutes as a substitute in the club’s goalless draw at Extremadura.
Lugo need one win from their final two matches at home to Tenerife and away at Gimnastic if they are to avoid relegation to Segunda Division B.
Elsewhere, Sead Haksabanovic was an unused substitute as IFK Norrkoping drew 2-2 at Hammarby in Sweden’s Allsvenskan on Monday evening. Norrkoping’s sixth draw in eleven matches left them eighth in the 16-team table.
