Alisha Lehmann to undergo surgery on ankle injury

Alisha Lehmann is set to undergo surgery on an ankle injury sustained during a training camp with Switzerland.

The 20-year-old – who scored nine goals in all competitions this season for West Ham and was nominated for the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year – picked up the injury while working with her national team earlier this week.

Women’s lead physiotherapist Elena Jobson has confirmed the attacker will require an operation on the injury but is optimistic Lehmann will return to action to represent the Irons in time for the first few matches of the 2019/20 campaign.

Jobson told whufc.com: “Unfortunately Alisha has suffered an ankle injury during a training session with the Switzerland national team and, after a scan, it has been decided that an operation will be the best course of action.

“Alisha is set for surgery early next week to utilise as much of the off-season as possible to recover. I’m confident that West Ham fans will see Alisha back on the pitch around the time the new season begins.”

Everyone at West Ham United wishes Alisha a speedy recovery from her injury.
