West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass has been included in the Scotland squad for UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and San Marino.
The 32-year-old received his call-up from former Hammers assistant manager Steve Clarke, who was appointed Scotland boss in May, having returned to the international scene after a year’s absence in a 4-0 home defeat by Belgium last month.
Snodgrass has 27 senior caps and seven goals to his name since making his debut against Northern Ireland in February 2011, including a memorable hat-trick in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in Malta in September 2016.
The Tartan Army will be eager to score morale-boosting victories after making a slow start to their Group I campaign, which saw them lose in Kazakhstan, twice to Belgium and at home to Russia in their first six matches.
Snodgrass and his teammates will face the Russians in Moscow on Thursday 10 October before returning home to face San Marino in Glasgow on Sunday 13 October.
Realistically, Scotland need to win both games to maintain their slim hopes of finishing in the top two and qualifying automatically for Euro 2020.
However, after being promoted from UEFA Nations League C Group 1 last year, Scotland are assured of a place in the play-offs, which will see four countries from each of the four Leagues play-off in March 2020 for the last four places at the tournament.
