Noble: We're determined to keep pushing in the league

Mark Noble

West Ham United skipper Mark Noble is determined to show Wednesday night's defeat at Oxford United was a one-off when his team return to action at AFC Bournemouth this afternoon.

A run of four consecutive clean sheets and six games undefeated came to an abrupt end at the Kassam Stadium, when the U's put four past the visitors to end West Ham's Carabao Cup hopes.

But, sitting fifth in the Premier League, Noble has plenty of reason to be optimistic as the Irons look to build on last weekend's victory over Manchester United.

"We’ll put Wednesday behind us," Noble said. "We are determined to keep pushing on in the league and have a crack at the FA Cup.

"As captain, I need to be positive around the club and there is still a lot to be really optimistic about.

"Let’s look at our League record. In our opening match we conceded five goals against Manchester City and then just two in the next five. Along with Liverpool, we are also the only two teams unbeaten in those last five games.

"The manager is always on to us about defending as a team and in recent League games, we’ve done that well.

"We’re fifth and only goal difference off third but I’ve been in the game long enough to know there are going to be results like the one at Oxford.

"With our next two games being Bournemouth and then Crystal Palace at home, which will be tough but winnable, we need to clear the memory of that cup defeat now.

"That shouldn’t be difficult. We’re straight into another game and we need to keep the team spirit that has been so good for the last month or more."
