Fisk: Chelsea clash could be the start of a strong December

Grace Fisk believes West Ham United have the opportunity to start December on the front foot by taking their A-game to Chelsea on Sunday.

The Hammers face the reigning Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions at Kingsmeadow this weekend in the first of three huge league outings in December.

Fisk recognises that the Blues will be tough opposition for West Ham, with the home side unbeaten in six league matches so far this campaign, but says the Irons have enough quality to take a positive result on Sunday.

The goal now is to head into the Christmas break with a few more points under our belts and take the most that we can from these three games, starting with Chelsea.

The defender recognises a strong performance will set West Ham in good stead ahead of two other league matches in December, away to Bristol City and at home to Aston Villa, as they seek to add maximum points before the end of 2020.

“Chelsea, as we know, are also going to be looking to win and are pushing for places at the top of the table, but we’ve got our reasons to fight as well,” Fisk told whufc.com. “We want to climb up the league and end 2020 the best we can. I think it will be a good game this Sunday and a chance to start our December positively.

“The goal now is to head into the Christmas break with a few more points under our belts and take the most that we can from these three games, starting with Chelsea. We all think, from the three games we’ve got, that we should be getting points, and that starts on Sunday.”

Fisk, like a number of her teammates, head into this weekend’s match after going away on international duty, and the centre-back says the team is in good spirits ahead of the game with Chelsea.

She added: “We're all excited to be back together and back to league action. Obviously, with the international breaks, people are kind of everywhere across the world, so it's good to be back together as a group. We've had some good training sessions and we’re looking forward to Sunday.

“The mood in the group has been really, really positive. I think everyone has really stepped up and taken a bit more ownership the on-the-pitch decision making, and that kind of thing. I think it's been a really good collective effort and we're working hard towards Sunday.”
