A hard-fought, courageous showing from West Ham United was not enough to avoid a 3-2 defeat at the hands of reigning Barclays FA Women's Super League champions Chelsea.
Sam Kerr's hat-trick for the Blues secured the win for Emma Hayes' side, although the Irons more than played their part in a thrilling fixture at Kingsmeadow.
Rachel Daly poked home from close range early in the second period to level the game at 1-1, after a first-half in which the Hammers had been unlucky to go in a goal down, while Emily van Egmond helped force the ball into the Chelsea net on 88 minutes to bring the match back to 3-2.
