Hammers set for ePremier League play-offs

The 2019 ePremier League Finals

On Tuesday evening, 16 top-class FIFA players will go head-to-head for the chance to represent West Ham United at this season’s ePremier League finals.

Eight PS4 and eight Xbox competitors will be whittled down to one Claret and Blue champion per console in an online tournament, with both winners qualifying for the nation’s most prestigious domestic FIFA competition, the ePL Finals, on 27-28 March.

Following a postponement last week due to a server outage, matches in the West Ham Club Play-Offs begin at 5pm on Tuesday evening, with a winner on each console set to be determined by 10pm.

All matches in the Play-Offs are two-legged, with each console platform featuring two groups of four competitors – with fixtures arranged in a format where any player who loses twice is eliminated – before the four top players per console battle it out in a single-elimination playoff.

Contenders include the top seven PS4 players from the Irons’ online qualifiers, the top six Xbox players, plus West Ham United’s official eSports players ‘Yago’ Gabriel Fawaz (on PS4) and Jamie ‘Jamboo’ Rigden and ‘Jas’ Singh (Xbox).

The Play-Offs follow hot on the heels of a busy weekend for both Yago and Jas, who were also on their travels to participate in the FUT Champions Cup Stage IV in Paris over Friday and Saturday.

Jas said: “It’s been a big week in the FIFA season for both of us. I’m really looking forward to the play-offs. It’d be perfect if I could qualify for the ePremier League a second year in a row and represent West Ham there.

“I lost in the ePremier League final last year representing Chelsea – I was literally one goal away from winning the whole thing on the PS4 side – but you always plan to come back stronger from defeat, and I think I have. I’d love to make the grand final again.”

Yago added: “I’m feeling very confident right now, and I’ll be doing my very best to qualify for the ePremier League and represent West Ham United yet again.”

Last season, Hammers players Jamboo and RUSTEMI92 battled through a live play-off at London Stadium last term to don Claret and Blue at the finals. Top-ranked FIFA 19 player Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt went on to claim the ePL trophy for Liverpool at the Grand Final in London.

This year’s Finals tournament will once again be broadcast live on Sky Sports, Premier League channels and the EA SPORTS FIFA Twitch channel, after last season’s inaugural competition received almost 14 million views across the same platforms.
