Two Hammers qualify for FUT Champions Cup IV in Paris

West Ham United’s eSports stars Jas and Yago have qualified for their second and third major FIFA tournaments of the season respectively.

The Claret and Blue-clad duo battled through the second phase of two fiercely competitive online qualification events to book their places for FUT Champions Cup Stage IV, which will take place in Paris over the weekend of 23 and 25 February.

In order to do so, PS4 player Yago had to secure one of only four spots open to South American competitors on the console, while Xbox challenger Jas was open of the top 16 European players to make it through the Weekend League qualifiers.

Both players were in emphatic form, with Jas enjoying a record of four victories from six games in the group stage, before battling past FIST Boras and xImpact10 3-1 and 3-2 respectively in the two-legged knockout stages to secure his spot.

Yago subsequently joined him in the competition hours later when, after recording five wins from seven in the group stages, he fell to a narrow loss in the final game of his initial bracket, but recovered to thrash AjaxTore77 4-1 in the losers bracket, sealing his place.

Fellow European Hammer Jamboo also came through the group stages with four victories from six games, but fell at the second hurdle of the knockout stages.

Of the qualification, Yago told whufc.com: “This is perfect. I’m feeling very confident right now after qualifying for three out of four FUT Champions Cups this season, and it’s a big opportunity for me to play in another great tournament.”

Each of the six FUT Champions Cups throughout the season offer a priceless opportunity to rack up prize money and Global Series points, which accumulate across the season to determine who will compete in the play-offs for the 2020 eFIFA World Cup in July.

The Hammers have enjoyed significant success in the top-level tournaments so far this season: Yago reached the console final in Stage I (worth 1400 points); the Argentinean and Jamboo both reached the Round of 16 at Stage II (300 points); and Jas made the same point in Stage III earlier this month.

Last season, just over 2000 points were required to make it into the eFIFA World Cup play-offs, so with plenty of games still to play until the end of the season, all three professional West Ham United eSports players will have their eyes fixed on the prize.
