A message to the West Ham United family from David Moyes

David Moyes

Hello everyone,

As West Ham United manager, I felt it was important that I spoke to you, our loyal supporters, directly, at this uniquely challenging time.

Firstly, on behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to send my best wishes to each and every one of you.

We know that unfortunately COVID-19 is a virus that it will affect many of our lives directly over the coming days, weeks and months.

Everyone here at the Club is pulling together to support one another and of course, the national effort to delay the spread of the virus with our primary focus being the wellbeing of our colleagues, their families and of course our supporters.

We have already seen many examples throughout society of human nature at its best in the face of adversity and I encourage you all, more than ever, to look out for one another.

We will not be playing Premier League football for a period of time and we support the decision of the authorities because it is necessary at this time, and we all need to do all we can to play our part which, in the long term, could help to save lives.

While we will not play until next month at the earliest, it is my job as manager to ensure our players are physically and mentally ready to return to the pitch, as and when the Premier League decree it is right and safe to do so.

In consultation with our own expert medical staff, we have put in place special individual training and meal plans for the players, and we have been in daily contact with each and every player to check on their health and wellbeing.

Rush Green, like all other Club sites, has undergone a deep clean and we will be resuming open-air, drill-based sessions soon, with all necessary measures and precautions of course taken to ensure there is no risk to players’ health.

I would like to end as I began, by expressing my support to our supporters, all over the world, and encourage you to look out for yourselves and for each other, with particular thought given to those older or more vulnerable people in our community who might need that extra help.

At this time, the West Ham United family can come together and show its strength.
