Prolific former Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Jimmy Greaves joined West Ham United in a deal which sent his fellow 1966 FIFA World Cup winner Martin Peters to White Hart Lane in part-exchange 52 years ago this month.
Greaves' debut came on a muddy pitch at Manchester City on 21 March 1970, when he maintained his record of scoring on his first appearance for every club he represented by netting two typically predatory strikes in a shock 5-1 First Division victory.
The Hammers' victory was also marked by a sensational goal scored by midfielder Ronnie Boyce, who smashed City goalkeeper Joe Corrigan's clearance back past him and into the net from all of 45 yards.
