West Ham United's eSports player Jamie 'Jamboo' Rigden will tonight take on AFC Wimbledon's Paul Kalambayi in the first round of Leyton Orient FC’s friendly FIFA 20 tournament, ‘Ultimate Quaran-team’.
The competition was kicked off by the O’s social media team last week and, after going viral and attracting entrants from 64 professional football clubs based all over the world, doubled its capacity to 128 teams.
The initiative was borne out of a desire to bring clubs together and put a smile on fans’ faces, during a time of unprecedented measures in modern football.
Each game is a knock-out tie to be played on PlayStation4, with extra-time and penalties if required.
The social media activity surrounding 'Ultimate Quaran-team' recently captured the footballing faithful's imagination, with no fewer than 16 different nations represented from the off.
Featuring a sole representative from Premier League clubs Manchester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, right the way through to Accrington Stanley, Orlando Pirates and Sydney FC, a worldwide festival of FIFA football is sure to ensue.
The tournament has a JustGiving page to raise funds for clubs who will struggle financially in the EFL as a result of fixture postponements, the Coronavirus pandemic aid and EFL’s Mind Charity.
