West Ham United eSports came out on the wrong end of an enthralling see-saw contest against Manchester City eSports in the second round of Leyton Orient FC's charity tournament, Ultimate QuaranTeam, on Wednesday evening.
Hammers' eSports player Jamie 'Jamboo' Rigden overcame Wimbledon defender Paul Kalambayi 2-0 on Sunday evening to set up the match-up against pre-tournament favourite: Manchester City's Shaun ‘Shellzz’ Springette.
The two couldn't be settled in the first set of (virtual) 90 minutes, a 0-0 draw short on chances seeing Jamboo come agonisingly close with an effort which hit the post and rolled across the goal-line.
If the former contest were a chess match, the second was akin to boxing, a 3-2 thriller which saw Jamboo twice take the lead through Albian Ajeti in the first half, only to fall to a Gabriel Jesus equaliser and a Leroy Sane brace.

The 'Ultimate QuaranTeam' tournament, formed by Leyton Orient FC, aims to raise vital funding for EFL clubs set to face financial struggles during this time of fixture postponement; the EFL's chosen charity mental health charity called MIND; and the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fundraiser by WHO. The competition was kicked off by the O’s social media team and, after going viral and attracting entrants from 64 professional football clubs based all over the world, doubled its capacity to 128 teams.
The initiative was borne out of a desire to bring clubs together and put a smile on fans’ faces, during a time of unprecedented measures in modern football.
