West Ham United’s first-team squad will step up to contact training after Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol was passed unanimously by a vote at Premier League Shareholders today.
The Premier League have issued the following statement:
Premier League Shareholders today voted unanimously to resume contact training - marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so.
Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact.
The Premier League’s priority is the health and wellbeing of all participants. Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.
Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol has been agreed following consultation with clubs, players, managers, the PFA, LMA and the Government. Discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow.
The Club has gone above and beyond the Government and Premier League recommendations with a number of measures having been in place in preparation for when Rush Green re-opened, including a health screening and temperature check tent for players and staff upon arrival.
Vice-Chairman Karren Brady continues to be in regular contact with manager David Moyes, medical staff, coaches, captain Mark Noble and the players through conference calls to ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone at West Ham United is at the heart of everything we do and that every decision is transparent and agreed with them.
