West Ham United women's team got their first win of the 2020/21 campaign in convincing style, seeing off Reading 3-0 in Group D of the FA Women's Continental League Cup.
A blistering performance by Martha Thomas was the catalyst to Wednesday's result, with the Scotland international providing assists for all three of the home teams goals. Thomas coolly set up Alisha Lehmann in the first period, after Gilly Flaherty's incredible through-ball, before squaring for both Emily Van Egmond and Rachel Daly to net in the second half.
A frantic and thoroughly entertaining contest saw Reading twice miss from the penalty spot. The first, taken by Lauren Bruton, was well-saved by Mackenzie Arnold, before Danielle Carter pulled the second spot kick wide of the left-hand post.
