The talent and potential of West Ham United women’s team is starting to shine through, according to midfielder Emily van Egmond.
The midfielder scored her third goal in as many games to secure a first Barclays FA Women’s Super League win of the season for West Ham on Sunday, deftly turning home to aid the Irons to a 2-1 win at Birmingham City.
Van Egmond admitted that the team recognised the importance of beating the Blues at the weekend and was delighted to play a big role in earning three points for the Hammers.
We’re a talented squad and we’ve got a lot of potential, and I’m glad that we’re starting to showcase that.

“We knew coming into this game that it was a must win for us and we needed to start getting points,” she told whufc.com. “I’m super proud of the team. We dug deep after going a goal down, and then to get the 2-1 win was fantastic. We showed a lot of character and it showed what we’re really about.
“To be honest, I don’t really care who scores so long as we’re winning. I’m prouder that we got three points in the bag. We’re a talented squad and we’ve got a lot of potential, and I’m glad that we’re starting to showcase that.”
Fellow loan signing Rachel Daly provided the assist for Van Egmond’s winner, crossing from deep. The Lioness is forming a productive partnership with the Australian midfielder and Van Egmond is enjoying sharing the same pitch with Daly at West Ham.
She continued: “Rachel is fantastic. Having someone of that calibre on the field doesn’t just lift my game, it lifts everyone else’s.
“The talent that she has and the experience she brings to the squad is second to none. She’s a true professional and we’re very fortunate to have her here at West Ham.”
With two wins from two games played in November, the midfielder believes it is vital for West Ham to continue in their current vein of form.
The Hammers welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Dagenham & Redbridge Stadium on Sunday, before playing Charlton in the Continental League Cup, and Sunday’s match-winner is targeting two more wins to see out the month.
“We’re looking to climb that ladder now,” Van Egmond added. “This has been a big week for us. The Reading game solidified a bit of confidence into us and that was exactly what we needed.
“We knew November was going to be a big month and an important spell, between now until the Christmas break. They are must-win games for us now. We’ve got to keep winning and keep believing in ourselves because we really have the talent to do it.”
