West Ham United is pleased to announced that the Club has partnered with the Football Association to enrol in their Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME)/female coaching programme.
The programme means the Hammers will offer a placement opportunity for aspiring coaches from these backgrounds, taking on a role within the Club’s famed Academy of Football.
Through a carefully structured programme of learning and development opportunities, the coach will gain invaluable experience and exposure within a professional environment from their placement.
West Ham United fully supports a range of BAME schemes in football, from grassroots through to elite level, and has previously supported pilot BAME coaching schemes with the FA with candidates successfully going into permanent roles in football.
The Hammers have also been at the forefront of the growth in women’s football. The West Ham United Board and Senior Management Team set out a three-year plan to invest in the professional Women’s Super League team, and move the training base to our newly refurbished Chadwell Heath site at the Academy of Football. Alongside this, the Club is driving participation at grassroots level of the girls’ game.
In addition, the Club continues to lead the way in its equality work, having set up a Staff Equality Forum to support the Equality Strategic Group and Board by providing a staff voice for equality-related issues.
The Premier League has also recently put West Ham forward to be accredited with its Advanced Equality Standard, recognising its continued commitment to embedding equality and inclusion throughout the Club.
Kalam Mooniaruck, Head Of Academy Coach Development said: “We are pleased to be taking part in the FA’s Club Placement Programme. Having previously enjoyed success through a similar scheme run by the Premier League, the Club recognises its responsibility to help bring more BAME and female coaches into the professional game and we hope the successful candidate can gain some vital experience within a Category 1 Academy to help them begin their career in sport.”
