West Ham United saw off Brighton & Hove Albion in a thrilling penalty shoot-out in the first fixture in Group D of the FA Women's Continental League Cup.
The match had ended level at 2-2 after 90 minutes. Rachel Daly's first goal in Claret and Blue had been cancelled out by Megan Connolly's effort, before Brighton took the lead in the second half thanks to Rianna Jarrett's close-range finish.
Captain Gilly Flaherty found the net with a stooping header less than ten minutes before the end, meaning a penalty shoot-out was used to determine the allocation of the spare point.
Emily van Egmond and Ruby Grant tucked their respective kicks away, but Daly struck the cross-bar, meaning the score was level at two each after three spot-kicks, with Brighton missing their first effort.
Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan was the hero, getting down quick and low to her right to deny Bowman's effort, meaning Maz Pacheco and Alisha Lehmann's successful strikes earned the Irons the victory.
