Unbeaten FIFA pro leads strong opening Weekend League

Curtis 'Paps' Poole

West Ham United’s Esports stars all made impressive starts to their competitive FIFA 21 seasons over the weekend, with Curtis ‘Paps’ Poole recording a flawless record in the delayed opening Weekend League.

The 24-year-old made an emphatic start to the competitive FIFA mode, which ultimately contributes towards the Global Series, winning all 30 of his matches on PlayStation4.

Not far behind him were West Ham’s Xbox competitors Alfie ‘AC RedLac’ Calder and Jonas ‘Jonna’ Ghebrehiwot, who struck up records of 28 wins to 2 losses, and 25 wins to 5 losses, respectively.

All three players are new to West Ham but have made auspicious starts to their careers in Claret and Blue, recruiting world-class FIFA Ultimate Team players in the first weeks of the new season to put themselves in a good position ahead of the competitive campaign.

Paps cited his most valuable player over the weekend as the 92-rated Cristiano Ronaldo, whose pace and athleticism the Hammer put to good use as an attacking midfielder alongside Kylian Mbappe and Zinedine Zidane.

Xbox players RedLac and Jonna, meanwhile, both selected an in-form Renato Sanches card as their teams’ top performer over the weekend.

Earlier this month, FIFA announced plans for their Esports events played on EA SPORTS FIFA 21.

Competitors will have the opportunity to represent their club in the FIFAe Club Series, compete for national pride and for their country in the FIFAe Nations Series, and create their own legacy in the Global Series, which builds up to the FIFAe World Cup 2021.

The latter two competitions feature prize pools of half-a-million dollars, while the FIFAe Club Series prizes total 350,000 USD.

Paps, RedLac and Jonna have all signed up for the events, with the FIFAe Club Series set to kick off in November, when the best performing teams will compete for the chance to play at the FIFAe Club World Cup in 2021.

All three Hammers will be going for Claret and Blue in the season ahead.
