West Ham United manager David Moyes hailed a professional performance from his side as they booked their place in the Carabao Cup third round with a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
Sebastien Haller's first half double put the home side firmly in command at London Stadium before Felipe Anderson added some late gloss to the scoreline and gave his side the comfort their display merited.
The Hammers ensured they would face Leeds United or Hull City in the next round next week and Moyes was pleased to make progress in a competition he wants to taste success in.
He spoke to West Ham TV at the final whistle...
David, in a cup competition the most important thing is to be in the hat for next round, and it was a good professional performance tonight...
"We want to get through and do the best we can. We want to progress in the cups and we've also got to be careful that we're not risking too many of our top players, especially with the level of the Premier League games and the standard you've got to play at.
"We've got to keep them fit and ready for them, but also we've put out a strong enough team tonight to get ourselves through in the cup."
You said you wanted to give players the opportunity to impress you and force their way into that Premier League team. The way we played tonight, and with some of the interplay, you can see the depth we've got in this squad. We've got some real talent here...
"We've got players who can play and we're trying to squeeze it so they give it to us all the time. We're demanding more of them, but look, we've got some really talented players. Tonight, some of them did well."
Whatever level it's at and whoever the opposition is, strikers thrive off scoring goals and Seb Haller took those two well...
"He got two and tonight we've won 3-0, but I think we could have won by double that. It was great that Seb scored a couple of goals, it really is, because we need our forward players to be feeling confident about it. The two goals tonight I'm sure will help him."
You went and watched the U21s in the EFL Trophy at Southend last week and Harrison Ashby caught your eye. He's got on tonight at the age of 18, and even in the five or six minutes he got on the pitch you could see why he caught your eye...
"Yes, I've quite enjoyed his performances when I've seen him for the U23s and U21s. It was the same when we just came in, in January, and we saw Jeremy Ngakia playing for the U23s and we thought if we had a problem his opportunity could come. We weren't sure he was going to get a chance because he had the likes of Ryan Fredericks, Ben Johnson and Pablo Zabaleta there, but with injuries and suspensions he got the opportunity.
"It showed that when the young players get their chance they've got to try and take it and be ready for it."
Without getting ahead of ourselves, we've got another home tie next week and if things turn out right we could be in the quarter-finals by October. You've been to the semis of this competition, you've been to an FA Cup final, so to get a trophy would be the crowning glory, wouldn't it?
"It would. As I said, every cup competition you go into you want to win, I do anyway, because there's not that many to fight for. I think there's also something about the Premier League games being so tough, so competitive and staying in the Premier League is very important. But nobody would take me away from trying to win a cup, it doesn't matter what cup it is. We'll do that, but we also have to be mindful about the squad, the people we've got, and thankfully tonight the majority were all fit.
"Jack Wilshere rolled his ankle in training yesterday and he was the only one who wasn't available to play tonight."
