West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed that Arthur Masuaku is still managing his recovery from a knee injury.
The DR Congo wing-back missed four months of last season with a long-standing knee problem for which he underwent surgery, but played the full 90 minutes of West Ham United U23s’ 6-1 win over Arsenal U23s on Monday night.
That appearance was Masuaku’s third appearance for the development squad in recent weeks, and his first complete 90 minutes since mid-April – the 3-2 Premier League win over Leicester City at London Stadium.
With the Foxes now due to return to East London on Monday evening for the Hammers’ first home game of the 2021/22 season, Moyes discussed the fitness status of his squad at his pre-match press conference.
He explained: “We’ve got one or two knocks and niggles. We’re still trying to get Arthur Masuaku back from a knee problem.
“Apart from that, I think we’re pretty much okay: one or two knocks and niggles, but everything else seems okay.”
With the Premier League transfer window set to close on Tuesday 31 August at 11pm BST, Moyes confirmed that he is open to the possibility of adding to his squad before the deadline – but also noted that there can be few certainties in football.
“I do,” he said, “I hope to do some more business.
“We’ve been trying hard and we’re trying to add to a good group of players and give ourselves more options at different times.
“We know we’ve got a challenging season ahead of us – an exciting one – so I hope we’re able to do something.
“But in this world, in this business, there are no guarantees.”
