West Ham United’s first-team coach Paul Nevin has re-joined the England senior men’s coaching staff on a part-time basis.
Nevin initially started working with the Three Lions in October 2018 and remained with the squad through to the end of the 2019 UEFA Nations League campaign, helping England secure a third-place finish, and now begins his second spell with the national side.
The 52-year-old joined David Moyes’ staff in February 2020 and assisted the manager as West Ham first secured their PL status, then put together a record-breaking 2020/21 campaign that climaxed in a sixth-place finish and UEFA Europa League qualification.
With Moyes’ blessing, Nevin will now join Southgate’s backroom team during each international break, adding his vast experience and extensive knowledge of the game to the England setup.

The England manager said: “Paul is a hugely respected coach and somebody we know well so we’re thankful to David Moyes and West Ham for allowing him to support us on the road to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”
Nevin has joined Southgate, his staff and the England squad, which of course includes West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, at St George’s Park ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers away to Hungary, home to Andorra and away to Poland over the coming week.
His return to the England backroom team continues a rich and varied career that has seen Nevin work all over the world.
After a playing career which took in spells with the likes of Shrewsbury Town, Carlisle United and Yeovil Town, as well as four years in the United States, he spent eight years coaching at Fulham’s Academy.
After managing New Zealand Knights in the Australian A-League and coaching at the Aspire Academy in Qatar, who will host next year’s World Cup finals, Nevin returned to England in 2013. He worked with former West Ham and Republic of Ireland defender Chris Hughton, first at Norwich City and then at Brighton & Hove Albion, either side of spending two years as the Premier League’s head of coaching.
It was while working with Brighton in 2018 that he was first approached to work with England. Having impressed hugely during that time, Southgate invited him to return to his backroom team.
