Czech mates Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal have become instant West Ham United heroes after swapping Prague for London in 2020.
The pair’s consistently outstanding performances in Claret and Blue played a huge part in the Hammers achieving a sixth-place Premier League finish last season and securing qualification for the UEFA Europa League group stage.
Souček and Coufal are also hugely popular in their homeland, where they were part of the Slavia Prague team which won back-to-back First League titles in 2019 and 2020, reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals and UEFA Champions League group stage.
The dynamic duo are both regulars in the Czech Republic national squad, too, and have started both of their country’s matches at UEFA Euro 2020, securing a 2-0 win over Scotland and a 1-1 draw with Croatia.
On Tuesday evening, Souček and Coufal will likely be in the starting XI again when the Czechs take on England at Wembley Stadium, with the winners securing top spot in Group D and a place in the round of 16.
To prepare for the big match, West Ham TV showed them the highlights of their respective international careers, including full-back Coufal’s debut against Qatar and maiden international goal against Slovakia and midfielder Souček’s first goal for his country against Iceland and recent hat-trick against Estonia, as well as the Czechs’ famous Euro 2020 qualifying win over England.
The close friends thoroughly enjoyed looking back on their international clips, which you can enjoy here in the latest episode of our REACTS TO… series.
