It was on this day in 2018 that Gilly Flaherty joined West Ham United Women.
The then 26-year-old arrived in East London having amassed 22 trophies at her previous clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Flaherty was appointed Captain before the beginning of the Hammers’ first season as a professional outfit, leading the team to the FA Cup final – where they were unfortunately beaten by Manchester City.
The defender’s leadership was key in helping Olli Harder’s side avoid relegation last season, and she will once again lead the team as skipper for the upcoming campaign.
