Dagný Brynjarsdóttir was pleased to make her debut for West Ham United despite defeat against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Icelandic international played the full 90 minutes at Dagenham & Redbridge Stadium as the Hammers battled away in what was a competitive contest in east London against the league leaders.
“It felt good to be back out there,” Brynjarsdóttir said. “Obviously, I’m just getting back into match shape and I haven’t played in a while, but it was good to be out there with the girls.
“Chelsea are world class, so it was a tough game, but I think there have been big improvements in the last few weeks since we played them last time. We want to win every match, but that’s how it is.”
There are a lot of world class players in the league, so I expected the standard to be high. I need to just keep improving myself and keep playing better with my teammates, and we’ll look forward to the next game.

Olli Harder’s side conceded at the start of both halves in Dagenham, with Sam Kerr and Bethany England combining on two occasions. There were chances for those in Claret and Blue on a number of occasions and were certainly improvements from the previous fixture between the two teams in the Conti Cup back in February.
“There were a lot of positives. They scored good goals, but we created a few chances – we definitely could’ve got a goal, but they were better today. We just need to build on this and keep improving as a team.
The 29-year-old midfielder signed at the end of January and has had to wait a long time to make her debut for the club that she has supported all her life. She spoke of the competitive nature and quality of the Women’s Super League, as well as our next fixture in the competition.
“It’s just a high standard,” she added. There are a lot of world class players in the league, so I expected the standard to be high. I need to just keep improving myself and keep playing better with my teammates, and hopefully we’ll look forward to the next game.
“We now have ten days to see what we did well today and what we need to get better at. I don’t know much about Birmingham City yet – we haven’t focused on them in training yet – but in the next few days we’ll get back out there and focus on them.
“It’s going to be a hard game as well, so if we want to win that, we’ll need to bring our A-game and play like we did today, if not better.”
